Aussies Are Playing Well in the US PGA Tour

The PGA Tour in Cromwell Connecticut is proving a great tournament for the Australian golfers with Matthew Goggin sharing the lead with Britain’s Justin Rose after he scored a six under par 64 in one of his personal best performances.  After the first round the leader board is very crowded with the other Aussies in the field, Matt Jones and Aron Price scoring a five under par 65 to be in second place with five other international players.

Rose played an excellent first round and was unlucky to not hold the outright lead after he scored birdies for six of the last seven holes.  Rose was not to disappointed as the tournament still has a long way to go and anything can happen when playing in the PGA.

Goggin was equally happy with his first round of the tournament putting him in first place tied with Rose.    The Australian had taken full advantage of the calm conditions during the morning session and was able to finish his first round before the weather turned.  The afternoon session was interrupted briefly by heavy rain showers and the high wind that was forecast for that day.  Players were faced with more of a challenge in the afternoon session and described the winds as strong and gusty which required adjustment to how the golfers in this afternoon session played.

Despite the windy and gusty conditions that were present in the afternoon session Fiji golfing great Vijay Singh was able to score 65 which slotted him into equal second place.  Other players found the conditions hard going with many mentioning that the gusty conditions made it hard to judge the flight of the ball from the tee.

When the conditions are right this course can be a great course for golfers who like to play attacking golf.  Many players concentrate on going for birdies at each of the holes which makes for exciting golf for both the players and the spectators.
