There ought to be a word for combining two great pastimes. You know, something that describes putting together distinct activities simultaneously. Doubleheader doesn't do it, because that's consecutive. I'm thinking eight to ten letters.
In any case, The New York Times Sunday crossword did just that -- combining golf and the redoubtable, always fun but not unsolvable Sunday puzzle -- with lots of golf clues and punny, funny golf answers.
Here are the seven clues.
22-Across: Where golf bag handlers congregate inside the clubhouse? 12 letters (Hint: Tune in the Golf Channel Tuesday night.)
26-Across: Golf clubs tossed into the drink at Pebble Beach? 19 letters (Hint: more than one word)
40-Across: Tendency to throw one's club after sinking a short stroke. 18 letters
63-Across: Like golf courses that let you play the full 18? 13 letters
83-Across: Competitions to see who can drive a ball farthest in the rain? 18 letters
101-Across: Thoroughly undeserved under-par result? 19 letters
109-Across: Fairway club swung quickly? 12 letters
It's Monday morning and with Sunday being Mother's Day, I didn't get a look at the Sunday puzzle until late Sunday night, so I'll give myself part of today and then hand it off to she-who-must-be-obeyed and see if we can't run the table. -- Robert Lohrer

Damn! That's my first-ever cross word to you, Robert. You've just reminded me how I traversed the waterholes at my local course on Sunday: I tried to play across but only penciled in the downs.

I love this. Just tweeted it.
Love the across/down golf/puzzle cross references, TQ
