Zegna. Ermenegildo Zegna was Greg Norman’s choice Saturday when he married Chris Evert in a private ceremony attended by about 140 friends and family in the Bahamas.
The bride, who divorced her husband of 18 years, Andy Mill, last December, wore Carolina Herrera.
If this match took you by surprise either when the couple first became a public item or when they became engaged last December, Norman explained that the longtime friends simply enjoy spending time together. Someone close to Evert told styledtoatee.com that they are like "two peas in a pod."
Saturday evening’s wedding was at The One & Only Ocean Club, with tennis and golf planned for the weekend. No word about a honeymoon but it’s safe to assume that it will be well off the beaten path.
Norman plays more tennis these days than golf, but his public profile might be slightly elevated in the coming weeks with the British Open July 17-20 at Royal Birkdale, the senior British Open the following week at Royal Troon and the U.S. Senior Open July 31-Aug. 3 at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.
On the clothing front, Norman is a longtime Zegna man. Makes sense. He loves fine things, whether his name is on them or not. There are two or three other tailored lines that recommend themselves at that level of price and quality, but if you had $40K or $50k to rework your wardrobe with only one label, Zegna would be the right club.
As Norman and Matt Lauer are good buds (Norman caddied for Lauer in theGolf DigestChallenge earlier this month at Torrey Pines), it’s possible that Lauer, who has a closetful of Zegna, turned Greg on to Zegna, although that’s unconfirmed. — Robert Lohrer
